Formally described in 2008 by Novas, Pol, Canale, Porfiri, and Calvo, this taxon represents one of the largest dromaeosaurids known from the Southern Hemisphere and one of the most distinctive forms within Unenlagiinae, a group of Gondwanan paravians closely
